Tummy Tuck 101

There is no right or wrong reason to have a tummy tuck, and it has become a very popular procedure. Many women (and men!) choose to have tummy tucks after babies, after weight loss, or to tighten up the torso because it can be STUBBORN!

The medical terminology for tummy tuck is abdominoplasty. There are multiple variations of a Tummy Tuck to consider and it is important to discuss with your surgeon which type is the best for you and your goals. There are multiple options to choose from, such as:

● Full Tummy Tuck

○ Removes skin and fat and abdominal muscles are tightened. Longer incision is usually required.

● Mini Tummy Tuck.

○ Lower abdominal muscles may be tightened and skin removed. Smaller incision due to less muscle tightening and skin removal.

● Extended Tummy Tuck

○ Similar to a full tummy tuck, but will include flank/love handle areas.

● Fleur-De-Lis Tummy Tuck

○ A specialized tummy tuck often performed after significant weight loss. Typically there are 2 incisions to remove excess skin.

● Drainless Tummy Tuck

○ No drains are used with post-recovery.

● Tummy Tuck with Liposuction

○ Liposuction is added with tummy tuck to remove excess fat and help with body contouring.

● Non-Surgical Tummy Tuck

○ Using non-surgical techniques to decrease fat.

Which option is a great question to ask YOUR surgeon during the initial consultation to discuss what is best for YOU!
