Stress and Lipedema - How They Are Related

When it comes to managing Lipedema the best way to control symptoms is to decrease inflammation. There are many things that can cause inflammation in our body including foods we eat, how much water we are drinking, and STRESS!

When we are stressed our bodies release hormones. Lipedema is affected by the imbalance of hormones. When these two things (stress and increased hormones) combine, there is usually an increase in Lipedema symptoms.

Stress is a part of everyone’s lives and it is not realistic for me or anyone else to say, “Get rid of your stress and your symptoms from Lipedema will improve!”. We all have stressors in our lives and stressful events will come and go.

The key to decreasing side effects from stress is learning how to manage it and finding techniques that work the best for YOU!

Here are a few examples of how we can manage stress.

● Go for a walk, bonus points if it is out in nature!
● Meditate or spend time alone in silence.
● Journal about your feelings.
● Diaphragmatic/Belly Breathing watch here on my YouTube video on “How to do Belly Breathing!
● Get more sleep.

Incorporating stress relievers in your routine can not only help you manage lipedema, but it will help your overall mental health!

Keep trying different techniques until you find one that works for you!
